The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers defines a current transformer (IEEE Std C57.13) as “a transformer intended to reproduce in its secondary circuit, in a definite and known proportion, the current of its primary circuit with the phase relations substantially preserved”. Its primary winding is connected in series with the conductor carrying the current to be measured or to be controlled and its secondary winding is connected to the measuring, protection or control devices. Osborne designs and manufactures current transformers which are used for instrumentation applications, others which are used for power system synchronizing applications and others which are used in protection circuit application. They have been designed to meet specified current ratios, burden impedance and transformation errors.

The Doppler Current Profiler Sensor (DCPS) is a medium-range, 600kHz current profiler smart sensor. It offers high-quality ocean current measurements and is ideally suited for cabling directly to various systems or dataloggers via serial or AiCap bus. With its integrated compensation for tilting and movement, the sensor is commonly used to measure current from buoys and other moving platforms.The 5400/5400R version of the current sensor is 300m depth rated, the 5402/5402R version is 4500m depth rated, and the 5403/5403R version is 6000m depth rated and intended for commercial as well as research use. It comes with an integrated temperature sensor that can be calibrated on request.As an extension to the DCPS, we now offer the current profiler with an integrated pressure unit called the 5400P. Developed for both semiconductor and digital superconductor electronics, it is computer-controlled and features 48 low noise current source outputs. Each source output has the capability to both set and read back currents and can be set to a zero current high Z mute state. Each of the 48 sources are optically coupled for control and are sourced from their own secondary winding for complete galvanic isolation. The device consumes a maximum of only 80 W and handles a maximum load current of 4.8 A total over all outputs. Operating over a range of 0-100 mA on each channel, the device features accuracy of +/-25 ?A. The mute state can be set thru a rear panel interlock or from the front panel button for maximum circuit protection. The unit can be mounted in a standard-sized rack.

The Current Monitoring probes may be used whenever RF current measurements are required. Current measurements are made by placing a current carrying conductor within the “sensing” window of the probe and measuring the probe’s output voltage with an RF detector. Calibration of the probe permits the conversion of the voltages measured to current. Current measurements can be made over the frequency range shown in the transfer impedance curve furnished with each probe. There is virtually no loading of the circuit and the technique permits normal operation of the device under test during measurements. The MP-50 can be used for the procedure for clamp injection when the common- mode impedance requirements cannot be met given in chapter 7.4 of IEC/EN 61000-4-6 „Immunity to conducted disturbances, induced by radio frequency fields”. The MP-50 can also be used as current monitor for BCI testing as per ISO11452-4, RTCA/DO-160 section 20, MIL-STD-461 and various automotive standards.
