Open-Source Quartz Crystal Microbalance
The sensor is a surface sensitive quartz crystal capable of measuring phenomena at molecular scale. It works in vacuum, air and liquid environments. The QCM sensor is based on the piezoelectric properties of the quartz crystal. The application of an alternating current causes the mechanical vibration of the quartz crystal in the MHz range. The QCM technique measures the variations in quartz frequency for measuring the mass variations on its surface.

Electro-Optic Modulators
Thorlabs’ selection of electro-optic (EO) modulators includes free-space and fiber-coupled LiNbO3 modulators. Free-space amplitude, phase, or resonant modulators can operate at speeds up to 100 MHz. We also offer liquid crystal EO modulators for speeds up to 2.5 kHz. Fiber-coupled intensity, phase, or IQ modulators for speeds up to 40 GHz can be driven by our EO modulator drivers. A modulator bias controller is also available for use with fiber-coupled intensity modulators.

The MESA-7220V2 measures both sulfur and chlorine in petroleum based products using the Monochromatic Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) method. A monochromatic X-ray source is used in order to obtain an ultra-low noise background which affords the best detection limits for both sulfur and chlorine.The detector window size was increased to collect more fluorescent X-rays and thus achieve lower level ppm values. This provides excellent, repeatable performance at both low and high concentrations of both elements.By adjusting the angle of the graphite crystal, the excitation beam can be measured to excite sulfur in the sample, increasing sensitivity.

The M.2-COM-4SM family of cards feature high performance 16C950-class UARTs. Available in 4-port and 2-port versions, each port is capable of communication speeds up to 921.6kbps in RS-232 (differential modes support speeds as high as 3Mbps) and has 128-byte deep transmit and receive FIFOs. Large FIFOs protect against data loss in multitasking operating systems, reduce CPU utilization, and improve data throughput, while reducing or eliminating inter-character or inter-packet pauses. The advanced integrated circuit with pre-scalar supports a wide variety of custom baud rates, and any rates not otherwise achievable can be supported via a custom factory-installed crystal oscillator (up to 10Mbps!).
