Cryogenic ICP® accelerometers are specifically designed to operate at temperatures below the typical -65 ºF (-54 ºC) temperature limit of most voltage mode sensors. There are three different types of pressures that can be measured using Premier Electrosystems' Pressure Sensors: Gauge, Absolute, and Differential. Gauge pressure is the pressure measured relative to the ambient atmospheric pressure.A typical application for a gauge pressure sensor is to measure liquid levels in a vented tank using the difference in hydrostatic pressure and ambient atmospheric pressure. Absolute pressure sensors will give the result relative to zero (a perfect vacuum). This is useful in applications where there is a direct effect of altitude on the pressure being measured. Differential pressure sensors measure the difference in pressure between two points. Differential pressure sensors are often used to monitor airflow in HVAC applications.

Magnetic level switches are used for the monitoring and control of liquid level in tanks. These level switches are specifically manufactured to customer specifications. The float switches are manufactured with a hermetically sealed contact which is located within the guide tube. The float sliding on the tube contains a ring magnet which activates the sealed contact in a non-contacting fashion. The sealed contacts are available as SPST (N/O or N/C) or SPDT (N/O + N/C). The float sliding up and down on the guide tube is the only moving part on the M-series magnetic float switches.

Turbine Flowmeters

Titan’s small turbine flowmeter range use a radial flow principle based on the Pelton wheel technique. This well proven method is the ideal way of measuring low rates of flow of low viscosity liquids. For these mini flowmeters, a jet of fluid is directed at a turbine that is mounted on robust low friction sapphire bearings. The geometry of the turbine and the fluid chamber ensures that the rotational speed of the rotor is proportional to the flow rate through the device. The use of this radial arrangement allows more energy to be imparted into the turbine, so the bearing drag is far less important. Furthermore, because more energy is available the bearings themselves can be a lot stronger so increasing the life of the flowmeter. For larger flows, some of the liquid can bypass the turbine chamber, which then behaves as a “shunt” to the metered fluid. Accuracy is still maintained and the output remains linear.

Designed with speed and operational simplicity in mind, the Transient Hot Wire (THW-L2) Liquid Thermal Conductivity Meter is an advanced measurement system for direct determination of the thermal conductivity of liquids and pastes in accordance with ASTM D7896-19. In less than 2 seconds, a single measurement of small volumes of liquids and pastes can be accurately and precisely measured for thermal conductivity. Using a non-stationary measurement approach, the THW-L2 uses rapid test times to limit convective effects for samples with a wide range of viscosities. The THW sensor consists of a 60 mm heating wire that is fully inserted into an isothermal sample. A constant current source (q) is used to heat the sensor wire and the temperature rise is recorded by monitoring the change in electrical resistance of the wire. The slope (m) is determined from the plot of temperature rise vs. logarithm of time and is used in the calculation of thermal conductivity (λ). Liquid samples of high thermal conductivity will have a lower slope, while liquid samples with low thermal conductivity will have a higher slope.
