Thermal Vacuum Testing
When you want to test your product for extreme space conditions, that include temperatures from 155°C to -175°C at space vacuum altitudes, Environment Associates is your solution. Using this test to determine the unique failures of space mechanisms that orbit the earth is key in improving system reliability. Thermal vacuum testing is similar to thermal cycling but adds deep space vacuums for detecting corona/arcing and intermittence and increases a product’s out-gassing. The key failure modes found during this test are: 1) electrical iIntermittence, 2) thermal control issues, 3) arcing, 4) corona, 5) material out-gassing, and more, to determine a product’s flight-worthiness for workmanship and processing issues.

Ultra-High Vacuum Ф4 Scanning Kelvin Probe
The Ф4 Ultra-high Vacuum Scanning Kelvin Probe system gives the user full access to work function measurements under vacuum with the ability to alter the temperature from 77 K to 860 K. The Kelvin Probe measurement has resolution of 1 - 3 meV for a 2 mm tip on a conducting sample. The sample is mounted on a plate that is located on a motorized (x, y, z) translator attached to a stainless-steel vacuum chamber. Phi 4 also comes with a photoemission spectroscopy system with a tuneable source (3.4 - 7.0 eV). The deep ultra-violet (DUV) light spot measures approximately 3 x 4 mm. Absolute work function measurements can be obtained with this system in the range of 4.0 - 6.5 eV with an accuracy of 0.05 - 0.1 eV.

SSG Series Strain Gauge Extensometers
Shimadzu’s SSG series of strain gauge extensometers are compliant with ISO, JIS, and ASTM tensile test standards, including those for plastics and metallic materials These lightweight, precision extensometers feature a wide elongation measurement range, while retaining the flexibility to measure using small gauge lengths, and support both rod and flat plate shaped specimens. Consisting of an elongation sensor and amplifier, this extensometer is suitable for use with metals and hard plastic materials, and is fastened securely to specimens with screws. Calibration using an extensometer calibrator allows the extensometer to meet JIS and ISO Class 0.5 and ASTM Class C standards for higher accuracy.

Vacuum Leak Test Systems
Vacuum leak testing is the principal leak test method for testing parts that could have leakage from an external source into their housings and casings. Parts like underwater sensors or housings, outdoor electrical housings, sealed components, and components associated with vacuum sources are all prime candidates for vacuum leak testing. Operation of instruments that supply vacuum to test parts instead of pressure works in a similar, yet essentially opposite, manner as pressure decay testing.

Force Gauges
Mark-10 digital force gauges can be used in a virtually limitless number of tension and compression force testing applications. Ultra-High Vacuum Scanning Kelvin Probe
Our Ultra-high Vacuum Scanning Kelvin Probes (UHVSKP2020 and UHVSKP5050) give the user full access to work function (Φ) and contact potential difference (CPD) measurements under vacuum with the ability to scan a sample area of 20 x 20mm or 50 x 50mm respectively. Each system comes with the UHV head unit, tip amplifier (located at the mounting port), digital control unit and host PC with dedicated software. The tip can be retracted 100mm from the sample and approaches normal to the sample. The associated digital electronic unit powers the head unit and provides an interface between the head unit and the data acquisition system. The system comes with a complete user manual, which includes an introduction to work function measurements and a detailed description of the system software, including examples. The work function resolution of the Ultra-High Vacuum Scanning Kelvin Probes is 1-3 meV.
