Standard Directional Gyroscopes
4000B-series
The 4000B is our standard air-driven directional gyro. As the aircraft turns left or right, gears on the sensing unit and dial shaft translate this rotation into rotation of the instrument’s vertical dial. Left turns produce clockwise dial rotation and right turns produce counter-clockwise rotation. The gyro is controlled by a heading selector knob located on the lower left of the instrument. Pressing and turning the knob first disengages the dial shaft and then resets the dial to a new heading, which results in a new course indication. Releasing the selector knob re-engages the dial shaft. The on-course position of the pointer is always at the top of the azimuth circle (0° on the dial with the aircraft headed north).

This new addition to our product line is ideal for aircraft fleets preparing to use, or that are currently using 615A loadable equipment. Avionic data loads can be performed from Floppy Disk, CD, DVD, USB, or the internal solid state Mass Storage Device (MSD). The MSD can be loaded in advance to eliminate the distribution of disks/memory devices to airplanes while significantly reducing the time to perform the data load tasks. External media is verified before any load is executed. This saves valuable ground time by alerting the operator of any bad media before attempting the load. Our 11615-50 PDL is easy to read and easy to use. All functions are performed using the high resolution 5” TFT LCD display and four large “Soft Buttons”. The Astronics Frequency Converter Unit (FCU) provides frequency conversion of variable frequency aircraft power. Recent trends in aircraft power systems use variable frequency (VF) generators instead of fixed frequency of 400Hz. While the majority of aircraft loads can use VF power, select loads still exclusively require 400Hz and are best addressed by the use of FCUs. The FCU performs the task of converting the power line frequency by leveraging recent advances in solid-state technology to provide dramatic improvements in performance over traditional frequency converter solutions.
