Physical Contact (PC) connections are characterized by the physical mating of two optical fibers. Precision ceramic ferrules are typically utilized for PC connections. A PC connection is accomplished by terminating the optical fiber into a precision ceramic ferrule. Epoxy is used to affix the fiber into the ferrule. The tip of the ceramic ferrule is polished in a precise manner to ensure that light enters and exits at a known trajectory with little scattering or optical loss. Polishing the terminated ceramic ferrule is a critical process in Physical Contact fiber optic connectors.

Surge repetition is electronically controlled from 0 to 10 seconds, a single surge or a train of pulses can be selected by a panel mounted switch. Automatic discharge of the instrument is achieved by a gravity operated switch which is released on switching 'OFF' the instrument or on disconnecting the supply.

The BathyCorrometer is a diver-held unit which will measure the corrosion potential at specific contact points. Although the readings are visible to the diver, a Surface Display Unit can be supplied to verify readings on board a ship or diving platform. The SPDT Power Relay Module consists of 48 single pole changeover relays controlled by a PXI/CompactPCI interface. It is suitable for applications were conventional reed-relay based switching modules do not have sufficient voltage rating or current carrying capacity. All 48 contacts are electrically isolated from each other and are capable of switching resistive and inductive loads up to 2000VA at 240V AC. The module is built on a single width 6U PXI module and the interface is via a standard PXI/CompactPCI backplane. Connection to the switching contacts is via three 50-pin D-type male connectors mounted on the front panel. These are machined contact types with 7.5A current carrying capacity.
